The service was designed to be referred into, not sold directly to patients: the company’s own instruction was to ask your physician for a referral.
How referrals worked
Three ways into the service
Through your physician
Ask your physician for a referral by email to info@copilotsincare.com. This is the route the company asked people to use.
Through a hospital partner
The sign-up form let a hospital partner identify themselves, alongside healthcare professionals and social workers.
Directly
The site also took sign-ups and questions from patients, family members and investors. Sign up here.
Feasibility
What the company had already shown
In Spring 2015 the team conducted a feasibility study that, in its own words, “proved our process and tools improve completion of end-of-life documentation and the family’s understanding of those documents.”
That sentence comes from the company’s own job posting for a Copilot, which is also the longest description of the service that survived. The posting describes the role as helping patients and their families reflect on, communicate, and document their medical wishes.
